How to Bypass AI Detection: 9 Writing Tips to Humanize AI Content

Avoiding AI detection has become increasingly difficult, especially when it comes to bypassing popular AI detectors like Originality AI, Copyleaks, Sapling, Winston AI, GPTZero, and Content at Scale. Many content creators are finding that these AI tools are even sensitive to non-AI-generated content.

Freelance writers, university students, and other creators often face aggravation, and sometimes even penalties, when articles, blogs, and essays are deemed AI-written. As AI detectors are not foolproof, there is always a chance that your content may be detected as AI by unreliable AI checkers.

The good news is that there are some ways to significantly reduce the likelihood of detection with minimal effort. Explore these 9 writing tips for bypassing AI detection by humanizing AI content.

1. Avoid the Use of AI Tools

Many people make the mistake of using AI tools to edit or proofread their content. Even tools like Grammarly, which is designed to catch basic spelling and grammar mistakes, can trigger AI detectors. While they may seem ethical to use, they can result in higher AI scores.

2. Rephrase and Restructure

Next, you’ll want to rephrase, restructure, and change the format of your content to bypass AI detection. Using an AI text generator will often create text that has a specific style.

You may see repetitive phrases, a bland tone, unnatural language, and a lack of personal touch. Open AI’s ChatGPT is notorious for overusing certain terms, especially sentence starters like, “First and foremost,” “Moreover,” and “Additionally.”

Try modifying the sequence of words and phrases to outsmart AI detection. You can also combine sentences to create a more complex sentence that appears human-written. For example, instead of saying, “It was a sunny day. There was not a cloud in the sky,” you could say, “There wasn’t a cloud in the sky on this sunny day.”

3. Introduce Synonyms

An easy way to evade AI detection is to introduce synonyms or similar words into your content. You’ll often find that AI writing tools use the most common version of a word to make the content easily understood by all.

To bypass AI detection, consider switching out some of these words with their synonyms. For example, instead of saying, “She’s a professional in her field,” you could say “She’s an industry expert.”

4. Vary Sentence Length

When using AI for writing, you’ll likely find that the output contains sentences of a similar length. One way to bypass AI detection is by varying your sentence length to make it appear as if it wasn’t written by chatbots. For example, you may start with a short sentence, followed by a longer sentence, followed by another short sentence.

5. Dumb Down Your Writing

While this writing tip is one you probably don’t want to hear, it can be effective in fooling AI detectors. When writing or re-writing AI content, try to aim for a 5th-grade level. This essentially means content that is easily readable by most people.

You’ll want to use plain language and avoid complex terms and jargon. Incorporate familiar vocabulary to convey your message and keep technical terms to a minimum.

6. Add Symbols and Punctuation

Depending on how you plan to use the content, this next tip may or may not work for you. Adding symbols and punctuation to your content is more likely to bypass AI detection. For example, you can replace the letter ‘o’ with a zero or use the ‘@’ sign instead of writing “at.”

However, it’s important to understand that this could make your content appear more spammy. Another approach that won’t affect the readability of your writing is to use strategic punctuation. Instead of adding just one question mark at the end of a sentence, use two. The use of contractions can also help you bypass AI detection, such as “don’t” instead of “do not.”

7. Use Active Voice

It’s always best to write in an active voice when attempting to bypass AI detectors. Active voice ensures that your sentences are engaging and direct. If you are using AI-generated content that is in the passive voice, consider manually rewriting or using an AI rewriter to change it to the active voice.

8. Include Personal Anecdotes

The downside of chatbots is that they are still unable to accurately mimic human nature. Adding personal anecdotes to your content can help show AI detectors that you are indeed human and have personal experience in the field in which you are speaking.

For example, if you’re writing for a food blog, you may want to incorporate a story about something that happened to you while working as a chef. Your content is even more likely to bypass AI if the story is unique, meaning there isn’t already similar information on the web.

9. Run It Through an AI Humanizer Tool

If you want your AI-generated content to sound human but don’t want to take the time to manually edit it, consider running it through an AI humanizer tool. AI bypass tools can be found for free or at a low cost. They work by rewording and restructuring AI-generated content to make it appear human-written. Best of all, they can rewrite content in mere seconds.

Some great options include:

Putting these Tips to the Test

Of course, I had to put these tips to the test to show just how effective they can be. I started by asking ChatGPT to create a 50-word paragraph about the importance of brushing your teeth. This was the output:

Next, I copied and pasted the output into Content at Scale, a popular AI detector. It’s no surprise to anyone that it was detected as reading like AI.

I then used the writing tips and techniques mentioned above to rewrite the content. It took me just a couple of minutes to incorporate a few AI bypass tips while still retaining the core message of the original content. I again put it through Content at Scale, and it passed as human.

It’s important to remember that these AI detectors are constantly evolving and becoming more sophisticated. What works to bypass AI now may not work in the weeks or months to come. Your best bet is to write your text from scratch. However, it is possible to use AI tools in your content creation process to save you time and elevate your content.
